Vicki Armstrong was born in Louisiana but has lived most of her life in Jackson, Mississippi. She received her B. A. degree in art from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, under the tutelage of Dr. Samuel M. Gore, a well-known sculptor and painter. A professional career in the graphic art industry has influenced some of her painting style. "I see my experience in graphic art as groundwork for the realism that exists in my paintings today. While having studied a variety of media, watercolor has always been my medium of choice. There is nothing deep or mysterious about my paintings or my subject matter. I love the challenge of capturing rich colors, shapes, and shadows of nature's realism with a medium that has a mind of its own. I prefer to paint landscapes with energetic shadows and colorful reflections, although I find still life studio painting equally challenging." In 2003, one of Vicki's paintings was selected by The Artist's Magazine as a finalist winner in the landscape category of their 20th Annual Art Competition. She was also selected as the cover artist for the 2004 Mississippi University Medical Center Candlelighters calendar. Vicki is a member of the Mississippi Watercolor Society. Her works are included in many private and corporate collections. She is represented by Stodghill and James Gallery (Ridgeland, MS) and Nunnery's Gallery (Jackson, MS). |
